Udaipur Star Chef

Hi Guys,
I know its been long I have not updated my blog and most of you must be thinking it was just another stupid effort by a foodie; you know thats what you call it in Hindi "josh josh me kar liya hoga shuru".
Well I don't blame you for that because I couldn't keep myself up to this task.Anyway the reason I was not able to write was that I had a wonderful Summer. I participated in one of the cooking competition which was held in my town know as Udaipur Star Chef 2017 and I traveled across Europe.
I was busy learning in this competition and of course I participated as well in this one. So my story goes like this one of my cousin and one of friend tagged me in a post which was an advertisement by the competition people and asked me to participate in this one. I happily agreed to them and I signed up for this. So, there were 3 rounds. The first one was Recipe Selection Round, The second one was Tasting Session and The last one was Final Mystery Box challenge. For the first round there were 104 contestants and 65 got selected for recipe tasting. I was one of them and I cooked a very traditional Rajasthani recipe which nobody knew about it. And well its called "aal-ni-bhaji" with "maize crisps".
And the tasting round was fun and judges loved the recipe that I cooked and one of them suggested he might want to include this recipe in his menu under Home style cooking. Well I was honestly honored by this comment. Well anyway I got a call next day by the event coordinator that I was selected as one of the  top 10 finalists, who by the way forgot to call me on my tasting session's original day. I was delighted when I heard that and I couldn't believe that I made it in top 10. So then the other formalities started and then the final was to be organised on 7 of July as a part of their Food and Wine Fest.
I had the most amazing experience of my life when it comes to cooking. I realized how amateur I am and how much learning is left for me. Guys I was the youngest of all the participants with no background of any formal cooking training. Even after that I managed to finish all my courses, i was asked to cook 3 Course Meal which had starter, main course and dessert. I made Melon Gazpacho as my starter which is a cold soup and with my Main Course I cooked Herbed Cauliflower Steak with Hunkar Begendi  served with wine infused roasted vegetables and  guys honestly I had no idea half way through my time allotted what I was going to cook as desserts and then some  miracle happened and it just clicked in my mind and I decided to make pancake sandwiches. I will share all my recipes in coming posts. In all I had the most learning experience of my life.
Being part of Udaipur Star Chef was one of the luckiest experience as well as I met really eminent people of Indian Food Industry. I met Chef Kunal Kapoor ( Master chef India Judge), Ms. Shatbi Basu (India's First Female Bartender)  and Ms. Ami Shroff (India's Youngest Female Bartender) and I met other eminent people as well.
Udaipur being such small town, such opportunities are very less and when you get such opportunity don't miss it you cooking enthusiasts! Don't think any opportunity as small or big. Just grab it you never know what is coming in your way. I despite of much disagreements with myself participated in this and made it one of the best memories to die with. I met such wonderful people and their stories were so disheartening and inspiring at the same time. In all I will call this competition as a much needed reality check in life.

An Experience to Treasure!
Happy Cooking!
Cheers!
